One of the last fragments of historic Jewish East End has been preserved. A Victorian memorial to a significant figure in women’s emancipation in the 19th century - Leonard Montefiore - has been restored and brought to life again as a working drinking fountain. HOLT worked with Tower Hamlets Council and the Jewish East End Celebration Society.

HOLT Director Nicola Stacey and JEECS Chairman Clive Bettington gave speeches at its unveiling and Rabbi Julia Neuberger said Kaddish with Rabbi Dr Andrew Goldstein. Professor Michael Berkowitz and Rabbi Goldstein also gave talks on the great Jewish families and their contribution to Victorian social reform. It was a fantastic day, enhanced with wonderful pastries and bagels by Rinkoff's bakery!
